Agriterra concludes SACAU’s organisation assessment in Malawi and Namibia

The Agriterra assessment mission team visited four SACAU (Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions) members in Malawi and Namibia. The mission was part of the overall assessment of SACAU’s readiness to implement the Annual General Meeting (AGM) resolution of separating SACAU’s core functions of lobby and advocacy from its other functions such as development work. The last week of November 2016 Gea Bakker (Rabobank) and Nicole Doornbos (Vrouwen van Nu) have accomplished the Workshop ‘On Sustainable Services’ for the first ‘real’ time. The client was Meru Coffee Central Cooperative Union (MCCU) in Kenya. This union consists of 34 cooperative societies, 96 wetfactories and 100.000 farmers.There were already some try-outs, f.e. in Nepal. The duration of the workshop was 2,5 days and everybody stayed in a hotel in Nanyuki. On purpose not in Meru because it could seduce participants to go home during the night or be busy with business as usual.

Research on the artificial insemination-model in Uganda

In September the journey of Alissa de Vos began. She travelled to Uganda to do an assignment for Agriterra. Alissa is a 4th year student Applied Animal Science and this internship is part of her last study year. During the 20 weeks that she is in Uganda, she will be together with another student Douglas.

Improving youth representation in Tanzania

The second part of Deborah Touw’s internship has started about 2.5 weeks ago. For the first part, she was based in Arusha (in the North of Tanzania) to do desk research about the Youth Involvement in Tanzania. This was done at the Agriprofocus/ SNV office together with a Tanzanian student: Aurelia Issack. After 4 weeks in Arusha it was time to start the field research. Together with 3 enumerators (Dismas C. Massawe, Meshack C. Otoore and Raymond F. Lyimo) who helped her with gaining information and translation.
