In the Makwanpur district in Nepal cooperatives are shaping their future. Because of a successful pilot, Enza Zaden and Agriterra extend their cooperation and support farmer organisations in seed production and commercialisation. The agreement was signed in August.

Within the framework of its USAID Green Annamites Project, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) rewarded Agriterra a grant of US$ 750,000 for the next two years to support the set-up and strengthening of agricultural cooperatives around the protected forest areas in Quang Nam and decrease the need of nearby communities for using the forests for their livelihoods. The USAID Green Annamites project supports the provinces of Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam in Vietnam in protecting the region’s globally significant biodiversity and helps local and ethnic minority communities to diversify and improve their livelihoods.
Read moreThe study tour of dairy cooperative IAKIB from Rwanda in the Netherlands was a great success. From 8 to 14 July, 5 representatives from the cooperative visited the Netherlands for a study tour.
The main aim of this visit of the IAKIB delegation was to gain insights and discover options on how to increase milk production to ensure a higher supply of milk to the cooperative. They also hoped to get inspired by Dutch farmers on how to improve farming practices and explore the latest equipment needed for expanding their animal feed factory.
The five day programme was quite busy, but also fruitful and insightful. “We learned a lot from visiting the organisations and farmers in the fields”, said Agriterra local consultant Jean Remy Muramira.
