Big blue tea factories
In the search for expansion of our client portfolio in Nepal, we planned a series of scoping visits in the Jhapa district, East Nepal. Famous for the production of several kinds of tea: CTC tea (Crush, Tear, Curl) and Orthodox tea, of which the production costs are higher, due to the process where the tea is hand- or machine-rolled. In the summer it can be quite warm, but in winter time (during our visit) the temperature is much lower. But that could not stop the Agriterra scoping team, consisting of two relatively new business advisors in Agriterra team Nepal (Yanamani Nepal and Rijan Ojha), our intern Miguel and myself.

Tierra Nueva and ACODEA - a success story from Nicaragua
The cooperative Tierra Nueva was established in 1997 with 23 members to market better prices for their organic coffee. At that time, farmers had to accept high variations in the market price as middlemen were the only buyers rotating through the villages. A lot has changed in the last 20 years and a new collaboration with ACODEA, an agri-agency that helps to achieve Agriterra’s goals in Latin America, promises new improvements.

Second day Nepal Study Tour visit to The Netherlands
After the official kick-off and getting to know the Dutch cooperative landscape a little better, the second day was all about farmer unions and the services they provide to their members. That is why we started the day by visiting two members of ZLTO (Southern Agriculture and Horticulture Organization) with the Nepali delegation.

First day Nepal Study Tour visit to The Netherlands
This week, 15 guests from Nepal are visiting The Netherlands for a study tour: 3 representatives of our cooperative clients in Nepal, 11 representatives from the Ministry of Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation (MoCPA), Ministry of Finance (MoF), Department of Cooperatives, Central Cooperative Training Center, GIZ INCLUDE and Cooperative Movements in Nepal, and Agriterra business advisor Trijan Singh. The main reason for their visit is to obtain insights and inspiration on how to use the recently endorsed new Cooperative Act for the benefit of the cooperative movement in Nepal.

Study tour to Germany and the Netherlands
In the purpose of a joint study tour, Agriterra Nepal and GIZ INCLUDE are currently travelling through Germany and the Netherlands from 07th until the 20th of January 2018. The participants are from Ministry of Cooperative and Poverty Alleviation (MoCPA), Ministry of Finance (MoF), Department of Cooperatives, Central Cooperative Training Center, GIZ INCLUDE and Cooperative Movements.

Fourteen inspirational stories
In order to bring awareness to the importance of women in the agricultural sector, Agriterra wants to share fourteen stories of inspirational women. We would like to show women’s roles in building and strengthening cooperatives, to encourage and support women who are already active in cooperatives and to empower other women to also engage with cooperatives.
