Powerwoman 1: Anedy Nyirendra Soko

Agriterra trained 14 strong willed female (future) leaders in the first ever ‘Female Leadership in Agricultural Cooperatives Masterclass’, held in Kenya. The group is composed of Zambian, Ugandese and Kenyan participants, representing organisations that are active in coffee, dairy, sunflower or credit and saving.

Main purpose of the masterclass is to strengthen the leadership skills of these women. These highly motivated cooperative leaders return full of energy and ambitions back to their respective cooperatives, better equipped to take up their leadership roles and make a change contributing to closing the gender gap in agricultural cooperatives.

Nepali cooperatives in times of crisis

Business advisor Sajena Dwa wrote a blog about the situation in Nepal at the moment. 

"Today marks the 24th day of nationwide lock down announced by the Nepali government. The Netherlands is the largest buyer of cocoa from Ivory Coast

The Ivory Coast is the largest cocoa producer in the world, and the Netherlands is the largest importer of these beans at 1.1 million tonnes per year. Agriterra opened an office in the former capital city of Abidjan in 2019. 

Agriterra back in West Africa

After an absence of a number of years, Agriterra once again has a local presence in the West African countries of Ghana, Ivory Coast, Niger and Burkina Faso.

Rwanda increased its Irish potato production

The agricultural sector remains central to Rwanda’s development programmes. One of the Government of Rwanda’s goals is to transform subsistence farming into a modern agricultural sector as set out in the Economic Development and Poverty Reduction Strategy (EDPRS2) and Vision 2020.

The Georgian Farmers Association as umbrella organisation (part 1)

The Georgian Farmers Association is not on the list of Agriterra’s clients. Still, in February 2016 and recently in February 2020 Agriterra was invited by the GFA to do an assessment of the organisation. The agripool experts Ton Duffhues and Frank Zeinstra went for a second time to this country situated in a complex geopolitical region. The provinces Ossetia and Abkhazia are now occupied by the Russians; Georgia wants to become a member of the European Union in 2027 and the United States of America have a very strong diplomatic commitment. Both EU and VS are supporting this small country with development programs.
