Last Tuesday (26 January 2021), India celebrated its 62nd birthday, Republic Day. The scenes in New Delhi, however, were far from festive. Thousands of farmers 'marched' to the old town centre, many on noisy motorcycles, some on their tractor or horse. They had balloons and Indian flags with them. And such slogans as 'farmers feed India' and 'hands off our farms'. Elated supporters lined the road. It looked like an Indian wedding.

In 10 African countries ambitious young professionals were offered the opportunity to gain work experience in rural farmer-led businesses at known Agriterra partners. Agriterra co-financed the salary costs of the cooperatives that were enrolled into the programme and it was guiding the young professionals and the cooperatives in the development, implementation and evaluation of their personal development plan.
MANILA — On its fourth year of providing business advice, training and learning exchange services to its client cooperatives, Agriterra Philippines organised the virtual Client Summit 2020 last December to look back at the implementation of the ‘Farmer Common Sense in Business Programme’ and to chart its path for future engagement. The programme was implemented from 2016 – 2020 as Agriterra’s strategy to strengthen cooperative entrepreneurship, professionalisation, and advocacy.
